Icelandic sensation BJÖRK has had an astounding musical career, spanning back almost 40 years and covering an unbelievable range of genres. It’s hard to think of many other musicians who can boast an 8-album discography so diverse and of such consistently high quality, rendering Björk a major drawcard for fans deciding to attend Fuji Rock Festival this year. FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 2 – HURTS

Continuing our highlights from Day 2 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

HURTS were the next group we caught on Day 2, playing in a completely packed Red Marquee. At first, it was hard to ascertain the main reason for this sudden bloating of this stage’s audience; it could have been that a charismatic and attractive male duo were exuding sultry retro alt-pop tunes for the enjoyment of anyone nearby, or perhaps that a sudden torrential downpour had forced many to seek refuge. FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 2 – AIMEE MANN

Continuing our highlights from Day 2 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

Next up on the Green Stage was Oscar-nominated American singer-songwriter legend AIMEE MANN, who after some initial technical difficulties was able to open up her set to an appreciative audience.

Playing in rock groups since the 80s, namely in the band Til’ Tuesday, Mann went on to pursue a successful solo career during which she released 8 studio albums. Continue reading FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 2 – AIMEE MANN

FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 2 – PRISCILLA AHN

Continuing our highlights from Day 2 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

Demure folk artist from LA PRISCILLA AHN played the Red Marquee, dishing out delightful indie-acoustic melodies to an adoring audience. Ahn has achieved huge success after signing to Blue Note Records in 2008, due largely to the popularity of her track “Dream,” the single featured on her debut album “A Good Day” and, as a result, many of her songs have featured on television shows (such as “Grey’s Anatomy”) and films, plus she’s been touring extensively. FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 2 – THE BAWDIES

The opening act for Day 2 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL was Japan’s old-school rock quartet THE BAWDIES.

Kicking it around Japan’s music scene after forming in high school in 2004, the group has made quite a name for themselves with their fun-loving rhythm and blues inspired offerings, giving them immense recognition in Japan and even some international fame on the back of five studio albums. FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 1 – NINE INCH NAILS

Continuing our highlights from DAY 1 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

Pouring rain and thunderstorms weren’t enough to stop NIN from performing their headlining slot on Day 1 of the festival, nor were they enough to turn away their huge fan base. Unsurprisingly, thousands endured heavy rain, thunder and lightning to witness the industrial rock marvels perform for the first time since 2009 on the massive Green Stage, and they were not disappointed. FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 1 – OF MONSTERS AND MEN

Continuing our highlights from DAY 1 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

Fans of Icelandic indie-folk stars OF MONSTERS AND MEN were treated to an uplifting and heartwarming performance from the group fronted by founding member Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and co-vocalist Ragnar “Raggi” Þórhallsson, both of whom were practically glowing with apparent gratitude to be playing such a huge event in Japan. FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 1 – FUN.

Continuing our highlights from DAY 1 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

Indie pop sensations and aptly named three-piece FUN. from New York was a fierce contender for best act of the day for this reporter. Set up on the largest stage at Fuji Rock Festival, the moment leading man Nate Ruess stepped out onto the stage and broke into the first track, a wave of good vibes washed over the audience and didn’t cease until the last song was over. FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 1 – YELLOWCARD

Continuing our highlights from DAY 1 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

Making the rounds in the alternative rock scene since 1997, YELLOWCARD is a band that holds a special place in the hearts of many of the genre’s fans. The group played a comprehensive and charged show on Fuji Rock Festival’s white stage, a show chock full of classics as well as tunes from their latest album, with their most popular tracks “Ocean Avenue,” “Way Away” and “Only One” evoking a seriously noisy response from the audience – it was one of the few sets at Fuji Rock festival that saw crowd surfers floating their way to the front of the stage. FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 1 – PEPPERTONES

The first of our highlights from DAY 1 of the legendary FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 which took place in Yuzawa, Niigata, Japan.

Often described as an electronic duo, Korea’s PEPPERTONES regaled their loyal fans with poppy goodness at day 1 of Fuji Rock Festival this year. Members Noshel and Sayo performed as a five-piece band on the Friday, playing a set rendering them more suitably categorised as indie pop. TOKYO HOSTESS CLUB WEEKENDER DAY 2 – TRAVIS

At Day 2 of HOSTESS CLUB WEEKENDER in Tokyo on Sunday, the headliner is Scottish alt-rock legends TRAVIS, a band which seemingly vanished in recent years. The group has certainly been quiet since their last album release in 2008, “Ode to J. Smith,” perhaps due to leading man Fran Healy’s work on his solo project, releasing an album on his own in 2010 entitled “Wreckorder.” The band is indeed back however, and in April this year released a teaser track “Where You Stand” from their new album of the same name, set to be released on 19 August.
